ESAP support for prevention professionals
Only prevention professionals who are already registered with
the NCSAPPB (NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board—formerly
the Certification Board) in pursuit of CSAPC will be considered.

Education for Substance Abuse Professionals (ESAP) is a part of the Learning Options for Clinical Excellence Program for North Carolina, a program of the Governor’s Institute on Alcohol and Substance Abuse. ESAP provides Jonnie McLeod Prevention Scholarships for certification training classes toward attaining CSAPC (Certified Substance Abuse Prevention Consultant). Only those who are enrolled with ESAP and registered with the NCSAPPB are eligible for these scholarships. [More about Jonnie McLeod.]
The criteria for ESAP enrollment
for those seeking assistance toward NC substance abuse prevention certification (CSAPC)::
- Hold a human services master’s degree with no minimum experience or a bachelor’s degree with at least one year working with people in high risk categories including substance abuse education settings.
- Currently working as a prevention professional in North Carolina or working in a companion field with a human services master’s degree.
- If in recovery, at least three years’ sobriety.
- Commited to a career that involves professional prevention consulting in settings as defined above.
- Already registered with the NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board and actively working toward CSAPC.
